Tangerine Tango It Is!

Wednesday, January 04, 2012

I've had fun the last couple of weeks meeting with newly engaged clients and enjoying all the holiday decorations in the city. As I wandered in and out of stores I noticed a lot of bright orange and yellow colors. So it's no surprise that Pantone announced it's color of the year is Tangerine Tango. It's a juicy, vibrant orange that gives you a jolt of energy every time you see it! Here are a few of my favorite things that each take a cue from the Pantone colors for Spring 2012.

Let's start with Tangerine Tango - I saw oodles of slim fitting jeans and jewelry in this vivacious color.

This room looks amazing using Solar Power (Yellow) and Cockatoo (a blue green)

Belleflower is a gorgeous shade of purple that continues to dominate fashion and home decor

Sweet Lilac reminds me of a dreamy English garden - and I love the color in this sweater (complete with a little bling!)

Sodalite Blue is a calming color (and isn't blue always a reliable standby?)

Cabaret is a sexy, fun color that makes for a great print

Starfish reminds me of warm summer days with my feet in the sand. It's a great neutral that works well to tone down some of the other more vibrant colors.

It's going to be one colorful spring!

These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things

As this year comes to a close, we like to reflect and look back on all the wonderful clients we've had the pleasure of dealing with. Two things jumped out at us in the photos - one was that moment between father and daughter before they walk down the aisle together. The other is when the couple exits the ceremony married! So here are a few of our favorite moments this past year (and please note, we haven't gotten our sticky little fingers on all of the photos from this past year, so we are certainly not excluding anyone. We just don't have the photos yet!).
Enjoy!

Style Me Pretty Feature - Tracey and Andrew

Friday, December 16, 2011

Good morning everyone,
Happy Friday! We are smitten with our feature on Style Me Pretty today. Our fun couple Tracey and Andrew really put a lot of thought and attention to detail in their big day. Andrew is from Australia, and Tracey is a designer. At our initial meeting (I like to call that the meet and greet, get to you know so we can down to the nitty gritty) they came prepared with lots of visuals. They both had very different visions on how the day should look initially. As I sat and listened (I couldn't write fast enough, they came at me with both guns blazing) I pointed out that a lot of what they were drawn to actually worked better for rectangular tables than the standard round tables. That was kind of the jumping off point for which all these fabulous fun details were born.

Tracey put a lot of effort in sewing runners for tables, making her own fascinator (she took a class!), and sewing luggage tags for all the guests. The Amy Butler fabric Tracey used had a modern vibe and was just the right pop of color to pull everything together. For more on their story, and to hear from the bride herself, head on over to Style Me Pretty and see all the details captured by Libby Green for Claudia Kronenberg Photography.

soooooooooooo cute!

don't you just love the colored sash Tracey added to her dress?

I just LOVE this detail!

We used waratah, a flower native to Australia to pay homage to Andrew's hometown.

Wrap It Up Pretty

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

This time of year has everyone scurrying around buying last minute gifts, baking holiday cookies, and trimming the tree. I personally do not find any fun in having to wrap packages (I have magical elves to help with that). I do, however, LOVE decorating the packages. Getting them all dressed up and under the tree is always a great sense of accomplishment. I love seeing the expressions on family and friend's faces when they see that pretty little package is for them.

I'm a big believer in reusing things, or giving things a new purpose. Here are a few fun tricks you can use to dress up your packages and gifts. And I'm willing to bet you probably already have a lot of these things in your home. You just have to go open that drawer that becomes the 'catch all' for things you don't know what to do with, or your crafty corner. Be creative!

First up, cheese cloth and felt. Cheesecloth is great because it has amazing texture, and you can layer it as many times as you like. This is a quick, easy way to wrap. Top it off with a felt snowflake and some leftover yarn and you are all set!

Felt is great this time of year because it reminds me of wool sweaters. Here, colored felt makes a great adornment on some snazzy wrapping paper. You can be 'matchy matchy', or for that modern minimalist you know, choose a bright color for a modern look.

Brown paper bags - we all have these in our homes (maybe not as much as we used to with the invention of recyclable bags). Cut them up, turn them inside out so you have that nice, brown craft paper look. You can do a million things with this one. Break out the rubber stamps and inkpads, let kids decorate this with markers. I took a fluffy, delicate yarn that has a little silver 'tinsel' in it (totally reminded me of soft knitted mittens) and wrapped the package in a haphazard kind of way. The less symetrical you are, the better. Great packaging for a masculine gift. Add paper rosettes with glittery centers and this is easily transformed to something more feminine.

Paper punches are a great way to make use of extra craft or scrap papers hanging around. These are especially great for smaller gifts.

Holiday ornaments - we all have those little stragglers that pop up from time to time. Usually from changing the colors of the decorations on the tree. What better use than to add them to the top of a gift!

Have fun decorating your packages this year!
